Abigale Lee
Miller(born September 21, 1965) is an American choreographer, dance instructor
and reality TV personality. Abby Lee Dance Company was started by her. It aired
on eight seasons of Dance Moms. On June 27, 2016, Miller pleaded guilty to
fraudulent bankruptcy in felony. Miller was sentenced on June 27 the 27th of
June, 2016 to a year, one day in federal prison. She was released March 27,
2018. In April of 2018, she was diagnosed with lymphoma which is a kind of
cancer that makes it impossible to walk. To move around she uses a wheelchair.
Miller was raised around dance in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, located in a
Pittsburgh suburb. She attended classes under her mother's direction at the
Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio. Miller was 14 years old when she was given
choreography and the role of coach on one of her mother's competition dance
teams. Miller later took over the company, changing its name to Reign Dance
Productions. Miller was certified by Dance Masters of America and was a member
of Dance Masters of Pennsylvania Chapter #10 in 1986, but her membership was
terminated in February 2012, with DMA saying that Miller's show on reality TV
Dance Moms was "a total false representation of our dance educators and
their students , and is damaging to the dance industry."
